Volkshuis/Maison du Peuple, Anderlecht, Brussels
31/44 were shortlisted for this invited competition, alongside collaborators Petillon Ceuppens Architecten, for the reconversion of the Volkshuis/Maison du Peuple in Anderlecht, Brussels.
The site will become a place for interaction, social economy and local production, containing a café, event spaces, a micro-brewery, productive workshops and housing on this prominent location between high street, rail station and the canal.
The site strategy connects a new public street-facing square with a larger shared central space of production and social public life. New buildings respect the historic qualities of the site but with a material and detail that foregrounds the productive activity on site.
